Travel from Nairobi to the Masai Mara National Reserve (also known as Maasai Mara) on Day 1 and enjoy your first game drive in the afternoon. Enjoy full-day game drives on Day 2 and eat a picnic lunch at the Mara River in the company of crocodiles and hippos. In the evening you'll visit a local Maasai village to learn about the local people and their culture, with traditional dancing, storytelling by the chief, and a nature walk with a local guide. Return to Nairobi on Day 3, arriving in the afternoon. 


Day by Day Itinerary:

Day 1 - Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve (L/D)

You will be picked from your hotel at 8:30am for journey south along the floor of the dramatic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve - an extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park also known as The 7th Wonder of the World because of the Great migration, witnessed every year between June and September when millions of wildebeests and zebras cross Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya in search of food and water and it is famous for its wide variety of resident wildlife all year round. With lunch at Narok Town you will arrive at the Masai Mara National Reserve in time for an afternoon game drive where you may have a chance of seeing the ‘Big Five’, different varieties of birdlife and the best savannah vegetation in the world. This is serene vast country of breath-taking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and rounded hills, of intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub. The Mara River and its tributaries which are margined by luxuriant riverine forest bisect the whole land. The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve. And in every direction there are seemingly endless herds of game animals.

Day 2 – Masai Mara National Reserve (B/L/D)

Full day drives for the day to absorb the beauty and splendor of the Mara. In this country of breathtaking vistas, view its vast assemblages of plains game together with their associated predators. Mara has the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya. Other animals to be seen here include Buffalo, Black Rhino, Hippopotamus, Leopard, Cheetah, Common Zebra, Coke's Hartebeest, White-bearded Gnu, Oribi, Warthog and Thomson's and Grant's Gazelles. The bird life of Mara is as profuse as its mammalian fauna.

Today you will have a picnic lunch at the Mara River where you can enjoy your box lunch while watching crocodiles and hippos laze around in their natural habitat. This is a great way to take advantage of your time in the park and enjoy seeing the views below and all around you. After lunch continue your game drive in search for more wildlife.

You will be dropped off at the Masai Village at 5:00 pm for an opportunity to visit the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. Upon arrival at the village proceed for a nature walk with the Masai naturalist guide, you will get to see herbs that are used as medication among the Masai. Return to the village where a camp fire will be lit, entertainment from both women, children and men of the village follows with a chance for you to join in their dancing. The chief will then give you stories of their culture and tradition, they will show you how the herbs seen during the nature walk are prepared and used. You will also have a glimpse into their homes and social structure, dinner will be served at the village followed by coffee and tea as you leave to return to the camp/lodge for overnight.

Optional: Tonight you will have the option to choose to sleep in an authentic Masai-style home with beds, located at the campsite (subject to availability).  


Day 3 - Masai Mara National Reserve - Nairobi (B/L)

Have an early morning game viewing drive in the park and return to the camp/lodge for full breakfast. After breakfast you will then depart on a leisurely drive to Nairobi arriving late afternoon. Drop off at your accommodation.

Safari Tents: Please note safari tents tents do not have mosquito nets.

Sleeping Bag: Sleeping bags can be hired for $10USD per day.


Accommodation Note:

Please note that the accommodations during your safari will be rustic and typical of the region. Camping will be in mobile tents, and the lodge accommodations will be a mixture of mid-range traditional lodges and tented lodges.

Suggested Packing List:

Pack as lightly as possible since there is limited space for luggage and you will not want to carry extra weight. Pack light-colored clothing, safari pants and shirts, sun hat, sunglasses, sun block, insect repellent, comfortable shoes, sandals, warm clothing, wool hat, scarf, rain poncho, warm socks, sweater, thermals, bathing suit, money belt, flashlight/torch, camera, extra batteries and memory cards (there is limited electricity available during some parts of the trip), waterproof bags for your camera, hand sanitizer, personal first aid kit, toiletries, rehydration powder, water bottle, contact lenses & glasses, electrical current adapters, earplugs, travel pillow, money pouch. Bring a small day-pack to carry your camera and personal items.

Bring extra cash for snacks, water, and souvenirs along the way. DON`T FORGET THE ESSENTIALS: original passport plus a copy, visas (if applicable), yellow fever certificate, insurance card, malaria pills, prescription medications.
